St. Ann of the Dunes Parish has sponsored a mission in Haiti for over 10 years. It was founded in 2007 and continues to be overseen by a Franciscan sister from Italy, Sr. Marcella Catozza. Her project is located in Wharf Jérémie, Cité Soleil, Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
One of our parishioners, Chris Cattani, a Registered Nurse, who had volunteered for many years in numerous third world countries, has supported Sr. Marcella since the project began. Our parish adopted this as an outreach mission in 2009 and we continue to provide sister with our temporal and spiritual support.
For a brief introduction to the plight of Haiti, please click here for a brief narrative prepared by a now deceased parishioner, Gene Schlickman, who, in his last years, was a strong voice in support of the people of Haiti especially our parish’s adopted project.
Progress made by Sr. Marcella in growing the project from a rented, second story clinic in 2007 to its current state, Vilaj Italyen – Kay Pe Giuss, comprising an orphanage with almost 150 children, a clinic, a school and a Church is pictorially documented in the 10 Years in Haiti presentation.
Finally, take a journey with Suor Marcella in the 2018 introduction to the next evolution of her work with the orphan children of Haiti, Haiti meets Assisi.
